Assistance Available through Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program (HPRP)

put on a temporary waiting list. You will, be called as soon as possible.
In the meantime, here are some other resources that may help you  

Many people are experiencing problems because of the economy. Perhaps you have lost a job or your hours have been cut back making it hard to pay your rent or utility bills. Maybe there has been illness in your family, or you just have no other place to go for help.

Federal stimulus money is available through the Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program to help individuals and families who are homeless or on the verge of becoming homeless. The goal of the program is to provide emergency short-term help that will get you over the hurdle of your immediate need so that you can become self-sufficient with safe and stable housing.

What type of assistance is available?

  • Short-term hotel/motel vouchers
  • Short-term rental payment assistance
  • Short-term overdue utility bill assistance
  • Rent security deposits
  • Utility deposits
  • Moving cost assistance
  • Storage (up to 3 months)
  • Workshops, one-on-one counseling, and skill development on budgeting, saving and financial planning

What is not covered?

The following things are not covered:

  • Mortgage assistance and costs
  • Payment on overdue credit cards, car loans, etc.
  • Non-housing services such as:
    • Child care
    • Employment training
    • Education
    • Transportation
    • Food, household items, clothing
    • Furniture and appliances

While the Homelessness Prevention Rapid Re-Housing Program may not cover the above items, caseworkers can assist you or your client in identifying other resources and agencies that may help with these services.

How long can someone receive assistance?

The program is designed to help people with immediate needs transition into safe and stable housing. Overall assistance for an individual or family is capped at 18 months, but this may include a combination of services from multiple agencies.

It also does not have to be 18 consecutive months, just 18 months total. With some types of assistance, there are specific time limits, such as 30 days for hotel and motel vouchers and 3 months for storage.
